How to Make People Like You
We often wonder why some people are like magnets when it comes to finding friends and some people can spend most of their lives alone even though that would not be their choice. Of course some people are naturally good with others and don’t really have to think about anything. They just are what they are and other people seem to like it. However, it is very possible to change our own attitudes and the way we act among other people. If we start doing things that naturally make other people feel good, they will like us more and that will create a positive snowball effect. I truly believe in these following simple tips and suggest that everyone should try to apply them in their lives.
- Become genuinely interested in other people. If we want to make friends, let’s put ourselves out to do things for other people – things that require time, energy, unselfishness and thoughtfulness. This kind of behavior can be linked to many of the most successful and liked people in the world. They make other people feel good around them and that is one reason why people want them to succeed. Think about a dog. A dog doesn’t have to work for living. They make their living by giving us humans nothing but love unselfishly, which shows how powerful thing genuine appreciation is.
- Smile. Actions speak louder than words and a smile says, “I like you, you make me happy and I am glad to see you.” This is why dogs are so popular, they are always so glad to see us that they almost can’t handle it. Therefore, naturally, we are glad to see them. A baby’s smile has exactly the same effect. Remember not to grin forcefully – everyone can tell the difference – genuine, heart warming smile is the way to go.
Set Goals and Accomplish Them
All of us have sometimes dreamed of some things that we would like to achieve. The dreams, big or small, are very important as such, but many people don’t realize that by setting clear goals and working hard it is more than possible that those dreams can become reality. First thing is to identify exactly what it is you want and then focus on it. Here are some helpful ideas:
- Set yourself a challenging and inspiring, but still a realistic goal. Think about one of your big dreams, such as “I want to become a millionaire” and break the dream into smaller and more manageable pieces, like “I want to learn how different people have succeeded”, “I want to find what my passions in life are” and “I want to save 5000 dollars to help starting my business”
- After you have divided your big goal into small enough pieces, write every step down on a piece of paper to ensure that you have thought out every part. It would not be nice if you were almost accomplishing your goal but you would have no idea what to do next. You should also give yourself clear and manageable deadlines for every step you have planned, so that you will not end up only dreaming more and never actually achieving your dream.
- Brainstorm ideas. This is very important. Try to figure out if there are different ways of reaching your goal and write everything that comes to your mind down for about ten minutes, without caring how stupid or impossible the ideas may seem. Remember that even getting a man on the moon was first just a silly idea in someone’s head and eventually it found out to be possible.
How to Find Your Life Purpose in Ten Minutes
Life purpose is something that everyone should find out - the sooner the better. Sometimes it is difficult to realize what things we really love to do or really want to achieve and what things the society has made us believe we want to do or obtain. Here are some tips that I have found very useful in finding my own life purpose.
- Start by writing a list of things that you do for fun and you fully enjoy. Think about the parts of your work that you like, the volunteer jobs, hobbies like sports, making arts, reading books, composing music and so forth. Imagine yourself into a situation where you have inherited lots of money, are a billionaire and never have to work again. What would you do then? How would you spend your time? Write these things down as well, even if you don’t do them now. This list is your passions. These things are the ones that you love to do and bring happiness and joy in your life.
- Think about people that you admire the most and why they are admirable. Write the names down. You might for example admire Bono, the lead singer of the rock band U2, because he lives by expressing himself to the whole world, living exactly how he wants and contributing to the society in many ways. You might admire Simon Cowell in the American Idol because he has the guts to tell the truth (or at least his real opinion). Find as many names as possible. When you’re done, realize that the things that you appreciate in other people are also in you! You are interested and attracted of these things because they move you, which means that they are part of your life. If these two names were your list, starting to express yourself to the world, contributing to the society as well as you can and sticking to the truth in the situations where that is the best solution would be the correct action steps to take you toward your purpose. Use these admirations of other people to show up in the world. These things are your actions.
